Does Your Dog Smile?

My dogs smile- absolutely! And I'm sure yours does too, but no one has been able to capture it! Freezing action to capture expressions takes a very fast shutter speed. When I take photos of dogs in motion, I use a minimum shutter speed of 1/2,000 second. By experimenting, I have found that I see different things at speeds of 1/4,000 -1/5,000 second. I have started to notice expressions- that gleam in their eyes when you take out their favorite toy or ball- how they perk up and sit or stand tall- how they fly through the air with ease- they are, undoubtedly, happy and look like they are smiling!

You're not going to get this with an iPhone or a point-and-shoot camera. Professional equipment and skill is required. My camera shoots 30 frames per second- the speed of video. I can capture a series of actions, say catching a ball from the time the dog leaves the ground, arcs through the air, catches the ball and lands. This series can easily be 15 or more images and I can easily pick out the best of the bunch. That best image is probably one you would never see without the help of a professional. Then I repeat that process up to 20-25 times to get the best of the best images and provide options for you to select your favorite(s).
